Volunteers
Without volunteers – no vessel protection.
With few exceptions, the historic ships are owned, operated and maintained by volunteers who spend thousands of hours restoring, maintaining and operating the vessels.
Why spend so much time and effort on unpaid work? The answer will vary greatly from person to person. Common to most is the desire for meaningful leisure time. The joy of preserving a cultural heritage and experiencing living maritime history, meaningful leisure time, community with like-minded people, belonging, great trips, getting to use professional knowledge, etc.
The vessels need certified crew such as skippers, engineers and deckhands, but also those of you who just want to join in and contribute in other ways to a social community.
